Ernesto Domecq draws and paints to create metaphors, hybrids, parodies, and simulations of the contemporary world. He appropriates different elements such as commercials, military weapons, and objects of daily use to produce ironic and humorous images with political connotations. Deeply tied to his home of Cuba and the power struggles his country faces, Ernesto Domecq’s work imbues with the hardships of everyday life and the notion of having to struggle to survive. Using his skill as a draftsman and the public space as his background, Domecq produces acutely-rendered drawings invoking the Cuban military, consumer ideology, and matters related to technology. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro, specializing in painting, in 2007.
